Florence County Land Conservation hires summer staff for the summer clean boats clean waters progrm where the goal is to communicate with local and out of town boaters on Invasive species in our area and the impacts they may have on natural ecosystems. Staff are trained in identifying popular aquatic invasive species and the proper techniques to inspect boats for potential hitchhikers and how to reduce chances of spread. Clean Boats, Clean Waters Equipment, in person training, and training resources are made available to residents who are interested in monitoring a waterbody. Monitoring can range from water clarity, water chemisty, native plants, invasive plants, and ice-on/ice-off. Citizen Lake Monitoring Network Snapshot Day volunteers will participate along with many others around the state to participate in a one day aquatic invasive species survey. Participants will be trained in identification and sent to a waterbody to collect data on what invasives they found (if any) which helps create a statewide image of the distribution along with providing a fun filled day on the water.
