Wildlife Abatement

deer in a fieldThe Wildlife Damage Abatement and Claims Program (WDACP) is designed to help agricultural producers to prevent and manage crop and property damage caused by wildlife and to provide partial compensation when prevention efforts are insufficient. The program assists farmers experiencing damage from wildlife such as white-tailed deer, black bear, Canada geese, and wild turkeys.

Examples of damage prevention may include:
  • Wildlife population control through managed hunting
  • Temporary electric fencing
  • Repellents
  • Relocation when appropriate
  • Modification of agricultural practices
Farmers may receive compensation for eligible crop lossees however crop prices are updated annually to reflect market conditions. People that meet program eligibilit requirements may choose to enroll and implement abatement measures.
